Description

This informal campsite is only suitable for fully self-sufficient campers, and is accessible only by a 2x4 or a 4x4 high clearance vehicle. The road to Oom Rickert se Huis can potentially be flooded in winter or after summer thunder showers. This designated camp spot is on an ‘only leave your footprints’ basis, and there are no ablutions or water. The site is for the exclusive use of the party of up to 15 individuals reserving such a site.

Rates displayed are on a camping basis, and guests are required to bring along their own equipment. Rates include a 1% community fund.

House Rules

Please note: From 1 September 2017 all visitors over 18 years old will be required to produce an identity document, passport or alternative valid identification e.g. driver’s licence card for scanning upon entering/exiting the Parks.
A standard daily conservation fee of R200 for foreign visitors, R100 for SADC nationals with a valid passport, and R50 for South African Citizens and Residents with ID, will be required on entry to the park.

Please note that these informal campsites are only suitable for fully self-sufficient campers, and there are no ablutions, water or electricity.
The camp is is accessible only by a 2x4 or a 4x4 high clearance vehicle.
The road to Oom Rickert se Huis crosses the Renoster River and its Hoenderhoek tributary and is potentially flooded in winter and after summer thunder showers.

Last stops for fuel (measured from park offices) are Ceres 180 km away, Calvinia 110 km away, Sutherland 140 km away, and Middelpos.
Diesel is available in the park.
There are no shops, restaurants or ATMs in the park.
No cell phone reception within the park as well as the main access roads.
Wood is available for sale in the park.

Please take care when driving in this region. The road gravel is sharp and often loose. Be very careful when taking corners and making sudden stops. Please give some thought to your fuel and water requirements, bearing in mind that the closest refuelling points are Ceres, Sutherland, Mddelpos, and Calvinia. Consider packing a full jerry can.
We recommend you traverse the park with a vehicle with high ground clearance and good tyres.
All roads in the park are gravel/dirt roads.

The use of drones inside (and over) our national parks is strictly prohibited.
No smoking is allowed inside the accommodation.
Remember, by feeding any wildlife you are signing their death warrant, as they become aggressive.
As outdoor lighting in camps is limited, a torch/headlamp is required when walking outside at night.
Pets are not allowed in a National Park.

Cancellation Policy - Custom

Cancelling or downgrading of a reservation 45 days or less prior to, or on, arrival will result in cancellation fees according to a sliding scale, based on the total reservation cost, which varies between 50% and 100%.
