Description

Ultima Thule Cottages is situated on a small working farm in Curry’s Post and offers a cosy and intimate hideaway for where guests can enjoy views of the Drakensberg mountains in the distance. Our focus is to offer a tranquil and secure retreat far from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and to ensure that your stay leaves you refreshed and relaxed. The location offers access to restaurants in the Midlands, the Midlands Meander, Midmar Dam, the town of Howick and Howick Falls.

Accommodation comprises 2 cottages. The Boutique Cottage comprises a queen-size bed with a lovely warm winter duvet for those chilly nights, a bathroom with a shower, basin and toilet, a small, but well-appointed kitchen, and seating for 2. The Land's End Cottage is a secluded, secure cottage for 4 with uninterrupted views of the Drakensberg. The cottage has been completely refurbished and consists of 2 newly furnished comfortable bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed and the other with a choice of 2 singles or one king size. All the beds have lovely warm duvets for the cold winter nights. There are 2 bathrooms, one with bath, shower, wash hand basin and toilet, while the other has a large shower, toilet and wash hand basin.

Take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the views, walk down to the dam, or relax on one of the loungers and enjoy the peace and quiet. Guests can spot duiker, reedbuck, bushbuck and if you are lucky, the baby caracal. Bring your binoculars and bird watch to your hearts content. Birds to be seen include black-headed oriole, the bokmakierie, Burchell’s coucal, Cape robin, crowned eagle, red-breasted cuckoo, Diederik cuckoo, southern boubou and our newest guest a golden tailed woodpecker as well as various sunbirds. Listen to the lowing of the cattle and the calls of the Natal francolin and guinea fowl.

The town of Howick is approximately 22 minutes away, with its shops and eateries, and the Howick Falls which, when in full flood, is a beautiful sight. Attractions in the surrounding area include Nelson Mandela Capture Site, Abingdon Wine Estate, Terbodore Coffee Roasters, and Karkloof Canopy Tours.
