Fourways High School

Description

Fourways High School, originally referred to as the “Farm School”, is a co-ed public day school in Fourways, Johannesburg. It teaches Grades 8 to 12 and is committed to providing top notch education to students who live within the feeder area of the school. With an ethos based on mutual respect and tolerance, it is known for its friendliness and school spirit. Fourways High School currently has 1170 students.

HERITAGE

The Fourways area was originally a farm and the mansion built on it still stands today. It is appropriately named “Norscot” after the owners who came from Norway and Scotland, and is today used as a Community Centre.

Built in 1988 in an area with very little development, Fourways High School was originally called the “Farm School”. It began with 145 students and 8 teachers. As the school was so small, it only had Grade 8 and 9 classes. There were no school uniforms, lawns, gardens, or sport fields. Students, parents, and staff worked together to plant the trees that exist today. The first students matriculated in 1991.

Garden of Remembrance

A few years after the school opened, a Garden of Remembrance was established to honour those who were part of Fourways High School at the time of their passing.

School Motto

The school motto is Semper Virtute which means “Strive for excellence”.

ACADEMICS

Fourways High is one of the most prestigious schools in Gauteng. It was awarded Top School in 2007 and 2008 by the Gauteng Education Department.

The 2014 matric pass rate was 99.1%
