Kwalata Game Reserve (or Kwalata Game Ranch) is a 1,500 hectare reserve located in the Dinokeng Game Reserve around 45km north of Pretoria and an hour’s drive from OR Tambo International Airport, Gauteng. It boasts 8km of river frontage, abundant wildlife, and a total of 56km of game viewing roads which makes for a superb game viewing experiences and plenty of photo opportunities.
Kwalata Game Ranch gets its name from the endangered and proud Sable antelope. Animals you can expect to see include kudu, zebra, giraffe, blue wildebeest, impala, waterbuck, steenbok, ostrich, and warthog, and more roaming the African savannah. The protected Tamboti tree also takes precedence here. There are various conference facilities and function venues, as well as a quiet wedding chapel nestled within a Tamboti garden.
The reserve forms part of the Dinokeng Conservancy (Place of Rivers), which boasts more than 18,000 hectares of conservation area. It has a rich diversity of natural habitats, with both bushveld and grassland terrain making a suitable setting for wild animals, including the renowned Big Five.
In addition to the fantastic gaming opportunities, Dinokeng also provides one of a kind cultural and shebeen experiences. Visit the nearby Mandela Village and a spaza shop, as well as experience a campfire in the bushveld, crossing the river on an 80m high ripe, Sangomas throwing bones, traditional gum boot dancing, walking trails through African bush, braaied chickens in a Mozambican tavern, Kwaito music, and so much more.
