Mbombela Stadium is an all-seater stadium in Nelspruit, situated a mere 40km from the world famous Kruger National Park, a premier safari destination in Africa. The truly African architecture (and iconic zebra stripe seats) of the stadium has resulted in a unique facility that blends in wonderfully with the landscape. It constantly reminds visitors to the stadium that they are in Africa, particularly the Big 5 country of the Mpumalanga Lowveld.
The 40,929-capacity stadium was recently built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and is the centrepiece of a proposed wider sports precinct that will include athletics, cricket, and other sporting programs. The multi-purpose stadium is mostly used for soccer and rugby matches and has become the preferred venue for major PSL matches of the Bidvest Wits soccer team. Bafana Bafana have played 4 matches at the stadium and won every game. The stadium is also the new home of the Pumas rugby team and the venue for all home games.
