The Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve is a privately owned, non-subsidized game reserve outside of Johannesburg. Situated near the Cradle of Humankind, the reserve covers approximately 1,200 ha of typical Highveld terrain. In 1985, the reserve was founded to preserve the scenic area, purely for private leisure. It started out with a few antelope and two White Rhinos, namely Ouvrous and Bulle, who were imported from a zoo in Germany. Today it is a proud member of Johannesburg's Big 5 Tourist Destinations, boasting 600 head of game representing 25 different species.
Visitors have access to braai areas, a curio shop, restaurant, kiosk, swimming pool, children's playground, and the Crocodile Pub where you can enjoy sundowners and watch crocodiles at close range.
