Named after Athol Fugard, one of South Africa’s most significant and internationally acclaimed playwrights; a man who has written plays for over 50 years that have moved audiences to both laughter and tears as they reflect on the racism, barbarity, and inhumanity of apartheid. The Fugard Theatre is proud to bear his name and aims to honour him by providing a beacon of humanity for all South Africans, regardless of race, colour, genders, or creed.
Shows at the theatre have included the Rocky Horror Show, Waiting for Godot, Broken Glass, and more. In 2011 the Fugard Theatre was fitted with state-of-the-art cinema equipment that ensures the theatre space can be transformed into a fully functioning bioscope when required. The venue is available for corporate and private hire.
