I have been privileged to have travelled to more than 10 countries in my lifetime. I have stayed at some of the best hotels in the world, and many of the 5 stars establishments in South Africa. I consider Bloomestate to be one of the most wonderful places I have ever stayed at. Funky, modern, artistic, elegant, luxurious – there are many words to describe this unusual B&B. Perhaps the modern style might not suit those who are seeking the historic feel of Swellendam, but even if you are not a city sleeker, you will enjoy the stay here. Were fortunate to stay here during a work trip (as a journalist for a travel radio program) with my co-presenter and my 9-year old son. The owners went out of their way to accommodate the “extra guest”. I was specifically impressed with the fact that there were enough towels in the room for three guests. This might be considered a small detail, but many other 5 star establishments will fail to do this to great frustration for those who have to share towels! It is this awareness of the needs guests, that will make each and every guest feel very welcome and special. We loved the tranquil garden, the pond with its secluded deck, the Jacuzzi hidden away in the trees and the outstanding breakfast. The breakfast buffet is display so beautifully and artistic that you wish you could have breakfast all day long! We were accommodated in the Earth Room which, like all the rooms here, are extremely spacious, stylishly furnished with great touches like the IPod docking station and free WI FI. Unfortunately it was too cold to relax next to the pool with its spectacular views of the mountain, but we will definitely be back to do that! Monique Strydom - September 2010 |
