An historic (Heritage building) house in the shadow of Table Mountain has been transformed from a pathology laboratory into a comfortable and luxurious Guest House. . In was built in 1882 according to the Art’s and Crafts style of William Morris and his peers. It is named after the original Roodenburg farm, on which it stands, given to one of the Jan van Riebeek “free Burghers”.

This remarkable transformation has taken a rabbit’s warren of offices and laboratory spaces and restored it into a gracious, modernised period home. Very little has been done to the exterior, which still is instantly recognisable as dating from the late 19th century. The interior has also retained many original features such as the stained glass windows, original woodwork and fireplaces.

The striking entrance hall in Roodenburg Guest House boasts William Morris wallpaper and the main reception area flows from a cosy bar to dining room and on to the delightfully warm and welcoming lounge with its wide doors opening onto a pool and water feature.

Interior designer Leigh Wishart masterminded the transformation and, with great sensitivity to the restoration of a historical home, brought contemporary 21st Century comfort and style into the mix. Each bedroom has a unique style and character of its own and the bathrooms are roomy and luxurious. Mindful of the need to be eco-friendly natural products have been used, and heat exchange geysers are in operation.

The downstairs bedroom has its own original working Victorian Fireplace and a private courtyard and garden area. The upstairs bedrooms also have ample space to unwind with a gym and library/ a private sitting room available, depending on your requirements. Original art work, painted furniture, stained glass accessories, wall papering and pretty fabrics all add to the beautiful product.
