This Classic Safari Camp in Klaserie Game Reserve, part of Greater Kruger is just the place for a group of family or friends wanting a personalised and exclusive safari in big 5 country. The camp has been newly refurbished and each round chalet is now en-suite, tastefully furnished and air conditioned. The view from the camp over the bush is breathtaking and many hours can be spent in the delightful rim flow pool or decked area that overlooks the bush below, watching elephant splash in the Klaserie River or a herd of buffalo moving towards sweet grasslands. A central thatched area has a graceful hallway leading into a comfortable lounge with a TV and an elegant dining table and chairs. However the meals are generally taken under the stars around the fire with night sounds filling the elevated hill-top camp area or at the pool deck perched over the darkening bushveld. Each rondawel is free standing in the well established garden and named after a local artist who is responsible for the art work of the room. The rooms are not large but airy, light and somehow enjoyably traditional.
The cliff edge at the view point however is left as natural bush and at certain times a riot of colourful aloe flowers. The thatched deck at the pool is well positioned, inviting delicious breezes into the cool afternoon shade - for a peaceful siesta. Nevertheless sections of the deck are always sunny for bathers to soak up the rays. There is a cooking area at the pool deck complete with preparation bowls, plenty of working space and its own funky set of enamel crockery.
The vast concession is home to a wide meandering ox-bow of the verdant Klaserie River and legendary in its game sightings. At certain times it seems all the elephants of the area descend upon the river with their trumpeting and family domestics making entertaining viewing from the safety of the cliff top camp. The river is an attraction for solitary and secretive leopard, their nocturnal hunting documented by the alarm calls of shy bushbuck. Sure-footed klipspringer scamper up the rocky river banks and large herds of buffalo flatten the grassy plains with their sheer numbers. All in all this is a truly captivating section of the Greater Kruger Park and a sure find for a group of like minded safari goers.
