Durbanville Racecourse
Description
The Durbanville Racecourse is a horse racing track situated in Durbanville, in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, Western Cape. This left-handed course has a circumference of about 2 200m, with a run-in of about 600m and no straight course.
Durbanville Racecourse has excellent drainage, making it an appropriate winter racing venue, which is when almost all meetings there take place. The home straight is a downward slope until just before the finish, and the track’s reputation in this regard has lead to pacemakers going too fast early on in the race. To give their best at this course, horses that race from off the pace need a good turn of acceleration. Low number draws are a marked advantage over almost any distance and Durbanville has a tendency to produce course specialists.
Aside from horse racing Durbanville Racecourse is also used for private functions, including weddings and office parties. The venue seats 120 guests and has a pool, braai area, a fully stocked bar, and kitchen facilities. A resident marriage officer and function coordinator are available for weddings.
