Melissa's - The Food Shop is a one-stop coffee shop situated in historic Dorp Street in the centre of Stellenbosch. Melissa’s is the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon cup of tea or coffee, either out on the sidewalk or inside in the quirky and busy restaurant. The only tough part will be choosing what to have with your hot beverage as the bakery beckons with freshly baked goods like scones, cakes, cupcakes, and brownies.
Melissa’s was started by Mark and Melissa Hoogstraten who opened their first store in Kloof Street, Cape Town, in 1996. Their aim was to provide products that were classic, timeless, and of good quality. The interior has a cosy feel to it with deep red walls, black and white checkered floors, blackboard menus, and shelf upon shelf of exciting items. Browse items in Melissa’s Product Range, as well as local produce, freshly baked quiches, savoury dishes, and salads. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, early suppers, and artisan coffee.
The shelves are laden with all sorts of tasty offerings such as fresh bread, biscuits, condiments, dressings, jams and marmalades, meringues, fudge, nougat, honey, preserves, oils, salts, dukkah, savoury snacks, chocolates, rusks, cereal, and sweets. There is also a vast wine and craft beer collection, and a selection of handbags, glass jars, plants, magazines, and arts and crafts.
