ABOUT UMHLANGA, SOUTH AFRICA: Umhlanga is situated on the north coast of Durban, in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The town was formed in 1973 through the merger of Umhlanga Rocks, a holiday resort and suburb of La Lucia. Although mostly thought of as a tourism and resort town, Umhlanga is also a commercial and residential town. Umhlanga, along with the Umdloti, is considered to be the Sugar Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. Umhlanga means "the place of reeds" in Zulu and is so-named because it is 3km from the Ohlanga river mouth.
