Milkwood Lodge

Milkwood Lodge is situated at the foot of the Fernkloof Nature reserve forming part of the magnificent mountain backdrop to Hermanus which is situated between the mountain and the sea. The coastal and mountain fynbos vegetation found within the reserve has high conservation status as it is extremely rich in species and home to over 1600 different plant species in an area of only 15 sq kilometres.
Several beaches, one of which is Grotto Beach, are situated on this side of Hermanus and all within walking distance of Milkwood Lodge. The famous Cliff path hugging the coastline starts at Grotto Beach and one can walk along the coast for 5 kms. which will bring you into the centre of Hermanus and the historic Old Harbour. During whale season whales can be spotted from the cliff path at several points and can also be viewed on special boatbased whale excursions departing from the New Harbour.
The Hermanus Golf Course is only 2.6 kms from Milkwood Lodge. The classic country course has undergone a major overhaul with the introduction of nine new holes, based around a new real estate component, and the charming and gentle layout of the past has been replaced with modern classically designed holes, that have added much to both the visual and challenging aspects of the course, without losing any sense of its former tradition. There are now 27 holes. Nearby Gansbaai is home to the Great White Shark Industry and Betty's Bay is home to a penguin colony at Stony Point.

Driving Directions:

Cape Town Airport

Take the N2 and continue past the Airport to Somerset West. Either follow the N2 over Sir Lowry's Pass, turning onto the R43 after the Houwhoek Pass, or take the R44 along the coast and turn onto the R43 to Hermanus. Drive through the business centre until you get to a stop street, you will see the Marine Hotel on the right side. Carry on and pass the Golf Course until you get to a traffic circle – Main Road becomes Seventh Street at the traffic circle. Milkwood Lodge is 1.1 kms further along on the left side of the road. Drive past Milkwood Lodge and turn left into 10th Avenue, left into 6th Street and then left into 9th Avenue.

You will see the entrance of Milkwood Lodge on your right hand side.

Garden Route

The N2 brings you west past Swellendam and Riviersonderend. 10km past Riviersonderend turn onto the R326 to Stanford. At Stanford turn right onto the R43. Milkwood Lodge is situated 22km from Stanford on the R43. When you enter Hermanus there is a “Welcome to Hermanus” sign. Approximately 1.3 kms further you will see Milkwood Lodge on the right hand side.
