Description

Bojanala Platinum is one of the four districts of the North West province of South Africa. It is regarded as the prettiest region of the province, and includes the beautiful Hartbeespoort Dam, Magaliesberg Mountain range, and the Pilanesberg National Park, and many other natural, cultural and historical attractions. Make your stay a reality by browsing out great Bojanala establishments listed below.

The Bojanala region consists largely of bushveld, nature reserves, game reserves, and game parks which serve as major draw cards for both international and local visitors. Nature lovers will be spoilt for choice with the Kgaswane Mountain Reserve, Madikwe Game Reserve, and the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, which lies in an ancient volcanic crater, and is home to the Big Five – the lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant. The Cradle of Humankind, a world heritage site stretching from Hartbeespoort Dam to Rustenberg, is not to be missed. It includes the Cradle Game Reserve, and is the site where ancient artefacts dating from the Stone Age and Iron Age have been found. Don’t forget to visit the Tswaing meteor crater and salt pan which is one of the most extraordinary places in the world.

While in the Bojanala region, indulge in a cultural lesson at the rural Mphebatho Cultural Museum, which documents the origin of the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela people and their culture. Housed in an old school house, the outer walls have been decorated with a traditional cow dung design, and guests can enjoy traditional dancing, cultural activities, and African cuisine here. Another ethnic experience is afforded to one at Lesedi Cultural Village which aims to give tourists a taste of the major indigenous South African cultures. It features traditional Xhosa, Zulu, Pedi, Ndebele, and Basotho replicated homesteads, consisting of a chief’s hut, surrounding huts for his wives, and a central cattle “kraal”. Choose to do a morning or afternoon tour which offers an opportunity to browse the Ndebele village and craft market, see the multi-visual theatre presentation, explore the homesteads, enjoy a song and dance show from all five cultures, and tuck into a spread of African dishes served in the Nyama Choma restaurant. Other cultural activities in the Bojanala region include the German community of Kroondal dating back to 1857, and the indigenous Bafokeng, Bakgatla, and Botswana tribes with their totemic civilisations.

If you like adventure, Bojanala is your playground. Water activities, mountain sports, hang-gliding, parasailing, abseiling, hiking, angling, yachting, and cable way activities can be enjoyed here. Adrenaline junkies can visit Brit’s Flying Club, go hot air ballooning at Hartbeespoort Dam, Cradle Game Reserve, or Skeerspoort, and do an exciting canopy tour in the Magaliesberg mountains which is a must. For family fun, visit Sun City which is well worth a visit. It offers two designer golf courses, 6000-seat Superbowl venue, the largest casino and gaming complex in the country, a waterpark, and much more. Other sights and places to visit include the Vaalkop Dam Reserve, the De Wildt Cheetah Centre, the Elephant Sanctuary, and the Crocodile Ramble.
