Description
Hillhouse is a charming, rustic, converted farm shed self-catering home nestled quietly among orchards, woodlands, and grasslands that look onto picturesque views of Midmar Dam in the beautiful valley below. Hillhouse is situated 14 km from Howick.
The Hillhouse can accommodate 8 adults and 4 children, providing the perfect accommodation for large groups of family and friends, workshops or retreats.
In Hillhouse, the main bedroom features a queen-sized bed with an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower, a toilet, and a basin. The other 3 bedrooms are furnished with 2 single beds that can be joined to create doubles. It's worth noting that one of these bedrooms is located on the landing, thus lacking privacy. Additionally, please be aware that the bedrooms have wooden walls, allowing sound to travel between them. There is an additional mezzanine with 4 single beds overlooking the living area, better suited to children and teens, as this area is not private. The remaining 3 bathrooms each include a shower. High-quality 100% cotton bed linen and towels are provided.
The house boasts a fully equipped kitchen, braai facilities, and an open fireplace in the lounge, with wood provided. Adjacent to the host's home, there is an unfenced communal swimming pool that all guests are welcome to use.
Exploring the garden, visitors will encounter food gardens, beehives and oak forests where Porcini mushrooms can be discovered in Autumn. Botanical enthusiasts will be captivated by the succulent garden located on the terraces below Hillhouse, as well as the hothouse collection featuring intriguing and uncommon plants. As guests stroll down the driveway, they are encouraged to pick fruit from the peach, plum, and citrus trees in the orchard nestled between the houses.
Bring your walking shoes and bicycles to explore the farm when you come and stay. There are wonderful walks into the indigenous forest and down to a small dam where you may picnic amongst the many species of buck, birds and other wildlife.
