Pakamisa Private Game Reserve
- Pakamisa Lodge, R66, Mkuze, 3170, KwaZulu-Natal
n August 1996 Isabella Stepski fell in love with the unspoilt Pakamisa Mountain in Northern KwaZulu-Natal. By September the land was bought and then the hard work began
In the first year they established the infrastructure with 52 km of dirt roads, and secured the 2,500 hectare park with 24 km of fencing. Pakamisa Private Game Reserve, which was once a cattle farm, is now pristine Savannah and Bushveld.
In December 1997 the superior stables were completed and Isabella's precious Arabian stud horses, imported from Spain, were in residence.
Perched on the edge of a magnificent mountain range, the Spanish Ranch meets African Bush styled lodge took 4 years to construct. Local stone and materials were hauled up the perilous dirt road, and finally in January 2001 the elegant lodge, reflecting Isabella's warm personality, welcomed its first guests.
Isabella has stocked the reserve with indigenous animals, steering clear of predators and dangerous beasts such as buffalo, to allow guests, horses and animals to live in safety and harmony.
There is always a home for released rehabilitated animals, and Pakamisa works with the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre Crow, based in Durban.
