Buffalo Park Cricket Stadium

Contact Details

Although it has limited stands and is the smallest ground in South Africa, the picturesque Buffalo Park Cricket Stadium in East London has plentiful grass embankments and a beautiful view with the ocean in the background. The stadium has adequate player facilities and has been an exciting venue for One Day Internationals (ODIs) and excellent night cricket matches.

As home to the Border Cricket Union and the domestic Warriors cricket team, the stadium first tasted international cricket in December 1992, when India defeated South Africa in the seventh and final One day International of their series. Since that time it has been regularly used for ODIs.

Stadium highlights: • December 1994: Pakistani paceman Waqar Younis claimed a hat-trick against New Zealand in the limited over match. • January 1999: Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Carl Hooper put on a fourth-wicket stand of 226 for the West Indies against South Africa in their limited over match. Shaun Pollock captured 6 for 35 for the Proteas in the same match. • October 2002: The ground hosted its first test and South Africa thrashed Bangladesh by an innings and 107 runs as Graeme Smith hit 200 and Gary Kirsten scored 150. • 2003 Cricket World Cup: Buffalo Park hosted a Super Sixes contest, as well as the match between South Africa and Canada.

The stadium was also known as Mercedes-Benz Park, thanks to sponsorship from the German motor manufacturer, and is in the process of long term development.

Buffalo Park has a number of top-class conferencing and banqueting facilities:
