Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital is a 1,200 provincial hospital in Soweto, Gauteng. It is a teaching hospital for the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School, along with the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Helen Joseph Hospital and the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital.


The hospital is located in Old Potchefstroom Road, Soweto in the Gauteng Province. Old Potchefstroom Road is the M68 that runs West off the N1 Highway Western Bypass. Soweto is West of Johannesburg South and South of Roodepoort in the greater Johannesburg


The Service is free for the following people:

  • Pensioners please bring proof of receiving pension i.e pension card or proof from the bank
  • Pregnant women and children under the age of 6 years
  • Disabled - please bring proof of disability/ doctors’ certificate

Other patients are charged an admission or consultation fee.
