Port Shepstone Lighthouse

The black and white checkered Port Shepstone Lighthouse is a prominent landmark in Port Shepstone on the coast of KwaZulu-Natal. The Port Shepstone Lighthouse was retired of its duty in 1905 and replaced with an 8m high circular cast iron tower (now equipped with a radio beacon)at the Umzikulu River mouth.

The lighthouse beam is visible from 26 nautical miles. A revolving electric light with a power of 1,130000 CD flashes once every 6 seconds over the Pondoland waters.
