Bloubergstrand, which means “Blue Mountain Beach" in Afrikaans, is situated on the Blaauwberg Coast, just 20 minutes’ drive from the Cape Town city centre. Its close proximity to the centre of town makes it an ideal base for those wishing to explore the Cape. The MyCiti bus offers effortless transport between Bloubergstrand and the city centre, as well as many other areas nearby. Primarily a residential suburb, Bloubergstrand attracts numerous local and international visitors who seek the beauty of the area.

Much of Bloubergstrand’s attractions lie in its white sandy beaches, from which the views of Table Mountain and Robben Island are really quite spectacular. The main beach in Bloubergstrand is called Big Bay, and is a surfer’s paradise, hosting national and international events each year. Little Bay is a smaller family beach, with a rock pool for the little ones to splash around in. Although the water is quite cold due to the Benguela current, the beach is very popular among surfers who can always be seen bobbing about in the waves. Visitors flock to the beach in summer which is great for beach activities. You will often see games of touch rugby being played, as well as Frisbee throwing, and sand castles being built. Southern Right Whales frequent the Bloubergstrand surf in season and the occasional Killer Whale has been spotted too. Humpback Dolphins, Heaviside's Dolphin, and Cape Fur Seals are common in the bay.

Apart from the beaches and the beautiful views, Bloubergstrand offers a number of attractions and activities for the avid traveller. There is a variety of top-notch restaurants, including an original fisherman’s cottage at the water’s edge where one can enjoy a seafood feast overlooking the view as the sun sets. As the area falls within a Marine Nature Reserve, diving for perlemoen and other delicacies is not allowed, but fortunately, the many seafood restaurants in the area allow visitors to taste a variety of seafood dishes including local white mussels.
