Our area is dominated by Rondebosch common just off cap ground road,a little more than a stones throw away from brooklands house.The common was the camp ground of the British and Empire troops during the Anglo Boer war of 1899-1902,but is now a favourite place for locals to walk their dogs and jog around.
Close by are the world famous red cross childrens hospital and Groote Schuur hospital whear the first hart transplant operation was performed by D christian Barnard,also close by are Newland cricket and rugby grounds,cape town being the mother city newlands is thought as the home of sport in south africa.Also not far away are the University of Cape Town and our own statley home ,of Groote Schuur ,the manshon Cecil John Rhodes had rebuilt and is now the offical residence of the state president of south africa.Next to the university of cape town on the slopes of table mountain is the Rhodes memorial,that is a great varentage point to look out over cape town and the hottentot mountains that in the winter months are often covered by snow. Driving from brooklands house the airport is only 10-15 mins drive away as is the city center,making the guest house the ideal venue for the business or the lesiure traveller.
