Description
Grootfontein Nature Reserve is a 1,200-hectare bushveld farm located 3 hours from Gauteng in the beautiful Limpopo Province, near the eco-tourism town of Thabazimbi. This working family farm welcomes all true lovers of the great African outdoors.
The reserve offers rustic accommodation in 4 bush lodges and 3 campsites that are all unique from each other and perfect for short or long stays. As an eco-lodge we do not have electricity, guests enjoy hot paraffin showers, gas fridges and solar powered lights - true off-the-grid living.
Visitors enjoy tranquillity and a pristine, untouched bushveld landscape that is home to over 150 species of birds, 160 species of trees, and a wonderful range of animals including zebra, giraffe, kudu, impala, waterbuck, bushbuck, blue wildebeest, nyala, warthog, and leopard. Since the farm does not offer the Big 5, guests are free to explore the area on foot. We are also only an hour’s drive from Pilansberg and Marakele National Parks where the Big 5 can be viewed.
In addition, we offer hiking, birding, 4x4 trails, mountain biking, as well as themed weekends for mountain bikers, photographers and art lovers. We guarantee that your stay with us will leave you with fond memories that will remain with you for a long time after your stay at Grootfontein and look forward to meeting you.
