Home from Home

A very nice stay.

I stayed at Home from Home (in the 'Butterfly Lane' unit) for 11 nights while participating in a chess tournament at nearby DUT and had a very nice stay. The unit had all the accessories I required, e.g. mini oven, microwave, TV, aircon, cutlery, etc. and everything was in working order. Hot water was always available. A bit of maintenance is however required here and there, e.g. rubber for the freezer and the shower door. Initially, I had to take care when entering with my Jetta at the gate, as it seemed a bit narrow, but once I learned to enter at a wider angle, it became much easier. I had to wait for a few minutes outside the gate when first arriving as the owner's phone gave an 'unavailable' message, but I was soon attended to by the host, who made me feel welcome as he showed me the guest quarters. Security never felt like a problem as the yard is well fenced. The double bed was comfortable, with beautiful linen. Night time was quiet as the unit is located to the back of the yard, away from the street. (The picture on the website is of the main house as seen from the entrance.) Overall a very nice stay, and I can recommend this guest house to others.

Plek was skoon en netjies. Veilige parkering is 'n probleem. Meubels is beskadig en lendelam. Swembad was vuil.

Below average.

The room was airless with no opening other than the sliding door at one end of the room. The shower couldn't close as one door was missing. The sink mixer wasn't attached to anything. Parking was tight, any reasonable sized vehicle would have problems with the entrance.

Restful, safe and conveniently close to everything.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Home from Home had everything we needed, including a TV with apps already loaded to log in to your own Netflix and Spotify account, together with the limited DSTV subscription. We had all we needed to entertain the kids on rainy days. The owner also provided us with his WiFi login details. Everything was crisp and clean upon our arrival, including the scatter cushions on the couch, which were clearly freshly washed. The kids loved the swimming pool, and we were even able to braai in the privacy of our own patio. Any time we needed anything, the friendly owner quickly helped us attain it, always making sure first that our privacy was respected. I would not hesitate to use Home from Home again if we ever go to Durban. The place is within 15 minutes of uShaka Marine World and within 25 minutes of Amanzimtoti main beach and Splash Waterworld, as well as other places that children love to visit.

Daar is 'n paar goed wat reggemaak moet word en aandag kort. Die reuk van verf is 'n probleem. Waarde vir geld. Netjies en skoon. Stil en rustig. Baie vriendelik en gasvry.

Value for money and I felt really safe.

Thembanif was an exceptional guest. We enjoyed the privacy, and it felt like a home away from home. I would definitely book Home from Home in the future.

Comfortable and safe stay.

Was a great experience. Accommodation good. Good service from the owner, Tawanda. Only thing is the parking is on a soft sand surface. So your shoes tend to get dirty especially if you had them cleaned and are attending a function. Maybe that area should be concreted.

Verblyf was gemaklik en skoon. Daar is wel bietjie maintenance wat gedoen moet word. Die dubbelslaapplekke se opwaswasbakke se krane is los en die een se stort deur werk nie.

Was 'n lekker slaapplek.

Die trappe op na eenheid kan 'n probleem wees vir ouer mense. Dra plakkies of skoene na swembad. Daai grond plak aan nat voete.

It was lovely.

The hosts were very accommodating, friendly and kind. They did not bother us at all and were very friendly when we needed something. The accommodations we neat and convenient. Will definitely visit again when we are on that side.

The hosts were friendly, the cottage was cozy, well-stocked and well-located. However, the unit was infested with cockroaches.

We saw around 14 cockroaches and the hosts did not seem overly concerned about the issue. The place has so much potential, but the roach problem is very offputting. The hosts of Home from Home were very pleasant and accommodating. The Olive cottage was enjoyable, with a comfy bed and a well-stocked kitchen. On our first night, we saw a large roach climbing on the bedside table. We assumed it was simply passing through, and as such, we were not bothered. However, the next night, we encountered over a dozen more roaches that came scuttling out when the lights were turned off. We informed the host of the issue and left the next day. On a positive note, we accidentally left something behind and the host assisted us in retrieving the item in question.

Comfortable and more than adequate for our needs.

The location was central and has easy access to all shops and amenities. The facilities offered more than we needed and we were met by friendly hosts. Really enjoyed our stay.

Friendly, accommodating, welcoming, warm.

The hosts were unbelievably accommodating, we arrived 3 hours after check in time and they made us feel welcomed. The bedding and linen was unbelievably clean, we've had bad experiences elsewhere. We forgot our laptop and charger and they called us to remind us about it. The place actually looks better than the photos on the site.

Location is good and the room was good. They just need to fix a few things. I really did not like the make believe couch and the chair outside.

It was a good place with safety, but I was not happy with cleaning of the room.

My understanding is that the bedding and towels are changed everyday, but it was not the case. I do understand their concern, but in future they must consider that.

Our stay at home to home was convenient and comfortable.

We had a great time at Home from Home, the service was quick when ever we needed help or something, the area was safe and had parking for my vehicle, the rooms provided enough space, while the kitchen had all the utensils one would need, I believe with a little upgrading around the kitchen and especially bathroom, otherwise this place is ideal shot a weekend and a long weekend stay.

It is peaceful and awesome.

We enjoyed our stay and they gave us some privacy and they kept on asking if we still okay. But the transport to the beach it was a challenge for us.

Safe, clean and can accommodate children

The place was good for our budget. We had a good time with my family. I will recommend it to anyone who wants travel on a low cost and it's excellent for a family. They have a braai area with a pool, close to restaurants.

This accommodation is in my humble opinion more suited to student lodging than short stays for the seasoned traveller. Our host was gracious and did try to make our stay comfortable it must be said. Alas, there were too many issues to warrant a return visit for us. The aircon unit (which virtually had to be run through the night due to the lack of windows) leaked water all over the welcome mat and the kitchen looked right into a rather cramped bathroom/toilet for starters. The desktop lamp had no bulb and the DStv decoder was balanced precariously on the edge of a shelf clearly built without factoring in the units' dimensions. The pots and pans looked the worse for the wear and the pool could have done with a deep clean.

Suggestion: put glasses in unit, as well as a carving knife, tupperware and a bigger fridge.

Beautiful stay.

Love the place. But they must accommodate different individuals who like loud music and fun.

As the name say, I enjoyed.

Place is so quite and nice and the view was lovely. We enjoyed the rest of the stay.

We loved the pool and freedom to swim whenever, owner went along with me surprising a friend. Spacious enough for 4 people. One or two minor adjustments could be made (a few things were broken, but did not effect our stay). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Saterdag, ander gaste was toegelaat om geraas en dronk partytjie te hou met groot getalle familie en vriende. Was baie ongerieflik.

It would be nice if an aircon could be installed, to beat the Durban heat. I think that the address should be changed as the GPS did not pick 188 Alan Paton road up, but it picked up 188 McDonald road which was the address on the front of the house.

Won't stay there again.

Friendly host, but not a nice place. Not even a courtesy bottle of drinking water. There was a problem and we had no water. I had to find a 5L bottle and fetch water from the swimming pool to flush the toilet during the night. TV had sound but no image.

Cleanliness is a major issue that they must really improve.

Good location, good customer service, but they need to change linen before new guests arrives and towels, bathroom and shower were not good at all.

It was an awful experience.

3 cockroaches seen. No bathroom door and this wasn't advertised. Dirty sheets and behind the toilet. No DStv though it was advertised. Kitchen right by bathroom. Sliding door was sticking. Front sliding door did not lock. Fridge was not cold when we arrived. Electricity went off the one day due to no units being bought. Tiles chipped. One bed leg broken and a brick put there.

Service was very good and the place was clean and well-equipped.

I only arrived after the check-in time, but was still welcomed with open arms. The place is very secure and safe and the flatlet had everything I needed.

Die bed se springs steek deur die bokant van die bed. Die lakens is lankal nie meer wit nie. Die wasbak en toilet ruik na riool as jy die krane oopmaak. Die vloere is geverf en dop op verskeie plek af. Dan ook as jy die deur oopmaak nadat dit toegestaan het ruik dit na koue, nat muf. Voorts was die swembad grasgroen. Jy kan sien dit word nie eers skoongemaak of probeer onderhou nie. Dit lyk regtig nie soos op die foto's nie. Ek kan nie glo dat daar sulke goeie resensies is nie. Ek het volgens die kwotasie betaal vir skoonmaakdienste, maar my bed nooit opgemaak, vullismandjie nooit uitgegooi en die handdoeke nooit vervang nie. Ek sal dit glad nie aanbeveel nie.

The service was absolutely incredible, Vanessa is such a kind person.

We stayed over for 2 nights and the place is beautiful, it's really a home away from home. Vanessa is really kind and so accommodating, our transport was running late and she offered to take us to the nearest coffee shop as they were expecting guests and we supposed to have checked out already. We will definitely go there again and recommend it to a friend. Keep up the good service.
