Description
The ideal destination for a digital detox, a honeymoon, or a hideout for the city dweller, Humala River Lodge is situated within the greater Songimvelo Game Reserve, a 49 000-hectare paradise in the Mpumalanga province bordering Swaziland.
Accommodation is offered in 10 luxurious thatched rooms and 5 luxury safari tents, and here you can start your day with a cup of coffee overlooking the sprawling landscapes below, and end the day with the sounds of nature lulling you to sleep.
Each of the thatched rooms is furnished with a king-size bed or 2 single beds, and guests can specify which they would prefer on booking. The en-suite bathrooms are fitted with an outdoor shower and twin basins, and bath towels and toiletries are provided. The rooms are equipped with tea- and coffee-making facilities, and open onto a covered verandah with lovely views of the valley below.
The luxury safari tents are situated on a deck from where guests can enjoy views of nature. The tents are furnished with either a double bed or 2 single beds, and have private bathrooms with baths, basins, toilets and outdoor showers. Each tent has electricity, and is equipped with tea- and coffee-making facilities, a standing fan, a hairdryer, and a safe for valuable items.
The central guest facilities comprise a reception, a lounge, a dining room, and a bar area. During hot summer days, guests can cool off in the swimming pool and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The boma is situated approximately 100 m from the dining area; here guests can spend evenings around a crackling fire, meeting new people. On Saturday evenings, the lodge has a boma meal and dance alongside the Swazi dancers as they put on a show for guests.
Brunch and Dinner are included in your stay. All game drives are under the supervision of qualified guides and undertaken in purpose-built game drive vehicles, and offers the opportunity to spot various game such as buffalo, elephant, rhino, leopard, wildebeest, waterbuck, and zebra. The night drives are a special experience to observe the nocturnal animals.
Highly knowledgeable field guides lead game walks with the focus being on identifying different plant species, animal spoor, and abundant birdlife, and it is an easy walk along a game track path next to the Komati River. Other activities include a rock art site walk, birding and fly-fishing.
The lodge has electricity but there is no cell phone signal, and Wi-Fi is available in the central guest area. Please note the lodge is not suitable for children younger than 12, and guests are required to bring their own insect and tick repellent.
