On arrival at the lodge, we were informed that 50% of the payment was still outstanding despite it being settled weeks before arriving. After arguing with reception, they realised that the account had in fact been settled. As we walked into the rondavel, the stench of sour vomit hit our faces and there was a puddle of vomit next to the toilet. Clearly, this wasn't properly cleaned before our arrival. We informed reception, and about 40 minutes later, a cleaning lady came sauntering over with a damp mop. No bucket, no water, no soap. She basically just spread the vomit further over the bathroom floor, and we asked her to just leave the mop, and we ended up cleaning it ourselves. Only the next day, after we returned to the rondavel in the afternoon, had they come in with soapy water and cleaned properly. The shower head was so pathetic that we ended up unscrewing it and showering under a single strand of water. Despite this, there wasn't enough hot water for one person, and we ended up showering at another person's rondavel anyway. The stove in the rondavel is so old that it takes about an hour to heat up and can't even bring a pot of water to boiling point, despite pre-boiling the water in the kettle. There is a sign in the bathroom that requests that you either hang your towel if you don't need it washed or leave it on the floor if you want a new towel. Given the weather, the towels weren't drying properly, and we left the towels on the floor with the hope of getting fresh towels. Nope, they just hung our damp towels over the chairs in the rondavel. We are really disappointed in the accommodation and definitely do not plan on returning.
