Disappointing.

Staying at House Number 57 is great if you enjoy listening to students partying, drinking and brawling all night. The best part was when at 02:00 one of their presumably drunk friends repeatedly rang the buzzer. The guests staying in the unit adjacent to ours were young students who used the communal pool area, that happened to be right next to our bedroom window, as their personal entertainment area. Explaining to them that we had a long distance to drive the following day meant that the ruckus was met with “Shhhhh, shhhhh” every time, from one in the group. We had chosen to stay there because it was supposed to be quiet. We had to travel 8 hours the following day on very little sleep. If you do decide to stay at House Number 57 remember to pack your own soap. The container in the shower is empty and just there for display. If you’re brave enough to take a shower, remember your flip flops; you might also need to pop in to your nearest medical centre to treat the fungus on your feet afterwards. Another item on display is the huge container supposedly housing coffee. There’s only one teaspoon of coffee in there, so you and your partner will have to play rock-paper-scissors to decide who gets the cup. Finally the highlight was when we wanted to leave the following morning to get an early start on the road. The gate wouldn’t open. On phoning our hostess, she said she didn’t have a key and wouldn’t be able to enter the premises. Long story short, my husband managed to open the gate and we were able to leave a half hour later. Other than that we enjoyed our stay.

House Number 57's response

We don’t have students living adjacent to the house. Unfortunately, there were young people who were booked by their mom Sharon for the night as there was a matric party in Sandton. I like yourself had no idea that they would be disruptive as they were meant to be out for the most part. One doesn’t have to be “brave” to stay here. You can look at previous reviews. It was just a disastrous night with these kids, I admit and regret. But, it was also an exception as we do not allow partying and noise. I understand the gate not working because of these destructive kids and me committing a cardinal sin by not having a key handy didn’t help matters. Fortunately, one lives and learns and we have unbiased reviews from other guests

Home away from home.

Lorraine, our host really made us feel extremely welcome. The unit is exceptionally clean and thoughtfully appointed. Total home away from home. This place will definitely see us again!

Didn't have good WiFi connection. Bedside lamps didn't work. Hostess made me feel extremely welcomed and enjoyed her company very much. Lovely person.

See stars.

Hi actually the bedside lamps do work. I just forgot to replace the extension cord for the lamp side on the left.

Well furnished and comfortable.

Spacious unit is well equipped and generally neat. Bed and bedding as well as towels were also good. Nice design elements like skylights add value. Relative degree of privacy is acceptable. Central location and good safety. Hostess was friendly and helpful. Will stay here again, especially in summer, because sparkling swimming pool is inviting!

Goed ingerig en gerieflik.

Ruim eenheid is goed ingerig en in die algemeen netjies. Bed en beddegoed, asook handdoeke, was ook goed. Oulike ontwerp-elemente soos dakvensters voeg waarde toe. Relatiewe mate van privaatheid is aanvaarbaar. Sentrale ligging en goeie veiligheid. Gasvrou was vriendelik en behulpsaam. Sal weer hier tuisgaan, veral in somer, want sprankelende swembad is uitnodigend!
