Breakage Deposit

A refundable breakage deposit of R1000 is payable directly to the establishment.

House Rules

Regrettably no children under 12.

Pets are not allowed.

Parties are not permitted, as well as no unregistered guests are allowed. All guests are required to sign an indemnity form upon arrival.

Only braai in the braai pit in the outdoor kitchen area. Do not a make fire/braai on the deck of the tent or anywhere in the tent area. Do not leave any fires unattended. A daily amount of firelighters and wood is included. Once finished additional wood can be collected and will be charged for an additional fee per crate.

No smoking, candles, or cooking are allowed inside the tent. Only snacks and drinks are allowed. All cooking at the outside kitchen area. Eating or drinking in the bed is prohibited.

Don’t leave the tent’s stacking door open if not within close proximity to prevent slamming.

Be mindful of water usage. The Karoo is a dry area. We have to be water-conscious. Only flush one-ply toilet paper, no foreign objects, septic tank. Only use biodegradable products provided, the grey water feeds to trees. Only use the portable washing rail to hang towels and clothes on. Do not hang it on the deck’s chain rail as the rust will stain it.

Put used towels in the laundry basket. Please take care of the furnishings. You have to pay for damages exceeding the security deposit. Do not drag furniture around as this will damage the floor and wooden deck. Please remove sand from your feet on the mat provided to avoid scratching the hot tub.

Do not add too much wood to the hot tub as it will become extremely hot. There is no option to add cold water due to water restrictions. If made too hot, you will have to wait for it to cool down (remove the blue cover and choke the fire to cool down). Only put the lid of the hot tub on the aluminium area. Do not put it on the plastic side of the hot tub as it will melt. A bin is provided at the hot tub to dispose of ashes. Do not throw ashes in the field.

Switch off the lights and any electronic devices at the outside kitchen area when you go down to the tent in the evening to prevent the solar power from running out / Wi-Fi from going off. Please wash your dishes. There is a double basin with hot water in the outside kitchen area (light the donkey for hot water if needed). Please use the green bin provided to recycle glass.

A canoe with seating for 2 and a stand-up paddleboard is available for guests to use. Please inform staff should you wish to do so and they will assist. Any damages to the canoe or SUP will be for your account.

Boat cruises can be booked on arrival at an additional cost per person.

Staff are available between 08:00 and 18:00. Only contact staff in case of emergency after 18:00

Please note that access to the retreat is by boat only. There is parking for your vehicle behind a gate on the opposite side of the Calitzdorpdam at the Fish Eagle Private Resort, approximately 8km from the centre of Calitzdorp town on a gravel road. There is no reception at the parking area, therefore approximate arrival time needs to be confirmed beforehand, leaving enough time for a staff member to leave and meet you there. From there you will ferried via boat to your private tent, situated approximately 40m from the water's edge. For this reason, check-in is before 18:00 as guests cannot be collected by boat in the dark. It is important to bring enough snacks and food for your stay as there are no shops nearby. A staff member is available to take you to your vehicle if it’s urgent.
