"We have now made Calvinia our overnight stop on 3 separate occasions, it is very well positioned."
"Being halfway is ideal. The town itself is not safe. People must take practically all the necessities. The shop is very basic."
"'n Baie stil dorpie met gesellige eetplekkies. Definitief 'n "gem" en tipiese tussengangdorpie."
"Die dorp met die meeste gastehuise. Twee goeie restaurante. Die Plattelander was ons keuse. Uitstekende kos."
"Very good and relaxing destination. Take as much of your own food requirements as you can."
"I was pleasantly surprised as I expected the town to have been run down even more by the scourge of small towns in South Africa: municipalities that receive qualified audits, pocket the money, and renege on service delivery. And I felt completely safe, even when I made my way on foot to 'Karoo Koelte' at night before load shedding started (another scourge of mismanaged South Africa). The town was also reasonably clean. I am South African, and have travelled this way many times previously, and loved the small towns of the past. There is hope for Victoria West, with some real attention to the infrastructure by an improved (hopefully) municipality after the recent municipal elections. A historical town, with much to see and do, when promoted properly."
"Roads need some serious attention. Pothole country could have serious accidents in rainy times. The area needs a clean up. National flowers, "the plastic bag," are an eyesore and distract from the natural beauty of the area. In need of roadside stalls with local produce."
