Sterland Kampering is a lovely camping site surrounded by Chinese Poplars, just 1 km outside of Sutherland.
Each of the 7 large, camping spots are situated between the trees, and each site has an electrical point as well as braai facilities. The spots are covered with gravel, to prevent ground sheets from sweating, and to prevent mud being trampled into tents or caravans on rainy days.
3 Water points are shared between the camping spots, and separate ablution facilities with electric geysers are provided for men and women. Facilities for washing up, as well as a clothes line, is available and shared. A communal asbos boma, Muisbos, is available for use on windy days.
Jurg presents stargazing nights between 20:00 and 22:00 on most nights. Please note: booking is essential. The presentation includes a short lecture followed by stargazing with 11" telescopes.
Visitors can also take a tour of the Dutch Reformed Church, the NP van Wyk Louw Museum, visit the observatory house to view the largest telescope in the Southern Hemisphere with prior booking, or drive the scenic Ouberg Pass.
