When planning a holiday, there is so much to remember, from booking flights to organising someone to look after your pets while you’re away, so it’s no surprise that things are often forgotten. But you don’t have to tear your hair out when you have left some important things at home. Gather yourself together and walk calmly to the reception area to enquire, as they will likely already have a lot of items you need:

  1. Travel guides and brochures

You do not need to stuff your suitcase with every bulky travel guide you have stocked up over the years. Most hotels will have a wide selection of guidebooks that focus on different areas. Some hotels will even go the extra mile of providing a file in your room with a list of recommended restaurants and activities.

It’s happened to me. You plug your phone in for its final charge before the long flight and as you leave, you grab your phone and leave your charger waiting patiently in the plug socket. But don’t worry about going out to purchase a brand new accessory when you have a perfectly good one at home. Most hotels will have a variety of chargers at hand for this very reason (most of them probably suffered the same left-behind fate that yours did).

  1. Travel adapters and converters

People often forget that different countries have different plug sockets, and find themselves unable to charge their electronics upon arrival. The hotel will often have adapters and converters for you to lend or hire.

  1. Socks

It may sound weird, but socks are one of the most forgotten items by travellers. Sometimes they just run out, having used their last pair for a sweaty hike that morning. Either way, it’s worth asking at reception to find out whether the hotel has a spare pair of socks for you.

  1. Hairdryers

Any good hotel will have a compact hairdryer for you to use, either supplied in the room or available at reception. If you’re lucky, your hotel may have a few more hair items such as curling irons or straighteners.

Trennerys Hotel (TG)

  1. Towels and beach gear

Most hotels will have towels available for rental. Some hotels will even have other beach items, such as umbrellas, buckets and spades, and even beach chairs.

  1. Toiletries

While this may sound insane to the germophobe within you, there are plenty of travellers who forget to pack their toothbrushes. Hotels will often have toothbrushes and toothpaste for this very reason. They will also often supply travel sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap.

Believe it or not, you’re not the first person to have suffered an outfit disaster on holiday. For this reason, hotels often have miniature sewing kits at hand to help you patch up your much-needed clothing.

  1. Entertainment

Sometimes the weather doesn’t play along with your plans and you are stuck indoors on a rainy day. There is no need to drive yourself insane staring out of the window, longing for something to do. Most hotels worth your pennies will have entertainment items to keep you and the little ones busy, such as paper and crayons, bathtub toys, DVD players for rental (along with a superb DVD library), books, magazines, and games.

Certain hotels have yoga mats at hand so that you don’t have to sacrifice your exercise regime on holiday.
