Ahoy mateys! It be International Talk Like a Pirate Day, so strike me colours if I don’t talk in a pirate way. Yo ho! Pirate fever be takin’ its toll aboard our olde port o’ work. Good olde pirate rock songs be fillin’ the decks with timber stomping tunes as we be settin’ sail under our pirate flags ter hunt for treasure. We’d like ye infamous landlubbers ter join our crew on our swashbucklin’ adventure ter seek out the 5 most buccaneerish ways ter celebrate the day. Anchors away! Livey now we go!

Learn ter talk like a pirate

“Can you talk like a pirate?” says you.

Says I, “I can! I been talking this way since me birthday began. Ye can talk like a pirate, come on and give it a try: AVAST AHOY AYE AYE!!”

Join Sharky and Bones, the pirate rockers from Jake and the Neverland Pirates, and learn the rest o’ this jolly “Talk Like a Pirate” song.

Set ye olde Facebook Profile ter talk like a pirate

It be simple: Strike on the arrow next to the “Home” tab on ye profile. Strike “Account Settings”. In the “Language” option at the bottom, strike “English (Pirate)”. Now ye can blabber t’ yer scurvy sea dog mates!

Join the buccaneers aboard the Jolly Roger Pirate Ship

Hee ho! Get yer map out and find the V&A Waterfront. At Quay 5 ye’ll find the Jolly Roger Pirate Ship – the only authentic pirate ship in South Africa. Join the scallywags aboard and set sail for daily voyages. Adventures last from 1 to 4 turns of ye hourglass.

Learn some pirate jokes

“What makes you a pirate?”

“Ye just ARRRRR!”

There be so many more odd fish codfish pirate jokes ter get ye hearties hittin’ the deck laughin’.

Get a lil’ Captain in you at the Jolly Roger Bars

This one’s fer ye blundering castaways who be enjoyin’ a good olde drink by the light o’ the moon. Get ter the Jolly Roger bars in Johannesburg (10 4th Avenue, Parkhurst) and Cape Town (155 Main Road, Plumstead) and get a swig o’ the olde Captain Morgan. There be plenty other bottles o’ rum to wet ye lips. But remember ter drink responsibly – ye don’t want ter be swabbin’ the decks in the morn!

Now that ye sneaky snoeks have some ideas o’ what to do for Talk Like a Pirate Day, let our crew know what else ye got in mind!
