We love Table Mountain. And it’s not just because it’s one of the New 7 Wonders of the World or that it’s recognisable from any person in any town, city, or continent around the globe. It’s the unusual flat-topped surface, the throng of fiercely cute dassies that call it home, the meandering network of hiking trails, the eerie table cloth that spills down the side, and its all-encompassing beauty that can be appreciated from both above and below. But more importantly, it’s because for most of us South Africans, Table Mountain symbolises home.

As Cape Town Mayor, Alderman Patricia de Lille says: “While Table Mountain defines our city, it is much greater than that. It is a natural world heritage site that belongs to all South Africans and, the world.”

To commemorate being chosen as World Design Capital 2014, the Mother City has already erected four enormous yellow frames, with the first built at the V&A Waterfront in January 2014. Created by local artist, Porky Hefer, the frames stand 2.8m tall and 4m wide and are painted in Pantone C109 (the official colour of the World Design Capital 2014) – perhaps better known as canary yellow. Scattered around the city, each frame provides an unbeatable view of Table Mountain from a different angle. The city of Cape Town has been promised a total of 7 yellow frames, and we’re excitedly waiting on the final three.
